Detailed Description of Virtual Disk Creation

In today’s article , we will discuss how to create a virtual disk on the computer . Whether it’s Windows 10 or Windows 8, we can create a virtual disk on your computer with the same method. In our article , we will also explain how we can remove the virtual disk we created from our computer. You can find the steps to create a virtual disk below.

Step 1: The first step we will take to create a virtual disk is to open the computer management menu by clicking Start and typing computer in the search box. When we open this menu, we see a screen with Windows system features and critical settings.

Step 2: You need to click on Disk Management option. When you come to disk management , you can see all the disks installed on your computer here. You need to right click on disk management and click on Create SSD. If you are not using an SSD disk, there may be an option to create a VHD disk, you can click on it.

Step 3: In this step , it asks where we want to keep your virtual disk. After clicking browse, we select the disk from the options section on the left , specify the file name, and click save. In this step, the name has been determined, but our virtual disk has not yet been created.

Disk Size Determination

Step 4: In this step, we determine the size of our virtual disk. Virtual disk can be created as much as the free space of the disk we use . For example, if there is 200 gb of space, we can create our virtual disk with a maximum size of 200 gb. You can also specify the size in megabytes, gigabytes and terabytes.

Note: If the size you specify is larger than 2 terabytes, you need to use your virtual disk in VHDX format. However, if your virtual disk is less than 2 terabytes, you can use the VHD format.

Step 5: At the bottom we need to choose the type of virtual hard disk. There are two types of virtual hard disks here. Fixed size and dynamically expanded. If you choose the fixed size option, it will reserve the disk size we use on the disk we choose, even if you do not add any files to it. If you choose the dynamically expanded one, the more you use from the size of our disk, the more space it will occupy on the disk you choose. That’s why we recommend your dynamically expanded option.

Step 6: After selecting the disc type , it created the disc but it has not yet been connected to the computer. For this, we right click on the created virtual disk and click initialize disk. On the screen that comes up, we click OK without changing anything. The disk created with this step is connected to the computer.

Step 7: Right-click the disk we created in this last step, and open the new simple volume section. In the tab that opens, we click next. Here we choose the letter we want to name the virtual disk we created on the computer. After naming it, we click next again. In this tab, we create the unit label and click next. And finally, the notification of the virtual disk formed in the lower left corner comes. In this way, the virtual disk was created and connected to the computer. We can see our virtual disk by entering our computer. You can drop files or store folders here.

Removing Virtual Disk from Computer

You can create the virtual disk according to your needs and then remove it again. Right click on the disk and click eject in options. Clicking eject deleted the disk but the files inside were not deleted. Just like removing a USB stick, only the disk has been wiped.

When you want to delete the virtual disk when you do n’t need it , we say exit first. Then, on whichever disk we opened our virtual disk, we come to that disk and say shift-delete to the virtual disk we created . We delete our virtual disk completely by saying yes to the question “Are you sure you want to delete” in the tab that appears. In the virtual disk deletion process performed in this way, the files in it will also be deleted.

When you want to use it again later, go to Disk Management and right click and add SSD. After typing “Browse” in the tab that appears, you need to go to the disk where the virtual disk is installed, select the virtual disk, and then click OK. Thus, the removed disk was opened to the computer again.
