In this troubleshooting section, we will show you solutions to fix Galaxy Note 10 won’t charge issue. We’re trying to fix a cable charging issue here so if you have a wireless charging issue with your device, we’ll cover that in a separate article.
How to fix Galaxy Note 10 won’t charge?
There could be many reasons why your Galaxy Note10 may not charge. Below are some of the common causes of most charging problems in Samsung Galaxy devices:
[geo_ad2]- Defective USB cable or adapter
- Charging port malfunction
- Moisture detection error or water in port
- Bad practice
- Unknown software problem
- Unknown motherboard problem
In this troubleshooting guide, we will show you how to fix charging issues on Note 10.
Galaxy Note 10 won’t charge # Step 1: Check the charging accessories
One of the most common reasons for charging problems to occur is bad charging accessories. As with the phone itself, the charging cable and adapter can break. Be sure to check the accessories for any visible signs of damage.
[geo_ad2]If the cable is broken or bent, sufficient power may not be transferred to the battery during charging. The same applies if the adapter you connect the other end of the cable to is working incorrectly. Knowing if the reason your Galaxy Note10 isn’t charging is due to the cable or the adapter is caused by using another set of accessories.
If you have another family member with a Galaxy Note10 adapter and cable, use them for charging. If your Note10 charges normally, replace what you have. Make sure you get genuine Samsung charging accessories to avoid damaging the Note 10.
[geo_ad2]Whenever possible, try to use official Galaxy Note10 charging accessories. Other Samsung chargers may not be compatible with your Note10 or they may not be able to provide the Note10 charger’s fast charging feature.
Galaxy Note 10 won’t charge # Step 2: Charge the device
If you’ve confirmed that you now have a cable and adapter that works fine, start charging your Note 10 again. This time, let your phone charge for at least 30 minutes before doing anything. We recommend that you turn off the phone for 30 minutes while charging. This should be enough time to fully charge the battery between 0-100%.
Sometimes, Android can lose track of actual battery levels. To recalibrate the operating system to get accurate battery level readings, do the following:
- Drain the battery completely. This means that your device will be used until it turns itself off and the battery level reads 0%.
- Charge the phone until it reaches 100%. Be sure to use the original charging equipment for your device and let it fully charge. Do not charge your device for at least two more hours and do not use it while charging.
- Remove your device after the elapsed time.
- Restart the device.
- Use your phone until it is completely exhausted.
- Repeat steps 1-5.
Galaxy Note 10 won’t charge # Step 3: Check the charging port
If your Galaxy Note10 is still not charging, the best thing to do is to do a visual check on the charging port. You want to make sure the port is clean and that there is no dirt, dirt or foreign objects blocking the end of the cable. If you can see dirt or debris inside, use a can of compressed air to remove it. Avoid getting anything into the port as it could damage the system.
Galaxy Note 10 won’t charge # Step 4: Forced restart
Charging problems can sometimes be caused by a minor glitch in the software. Such a situation can be resolved by restarting the device. If you haven’t tried this yet, be sure to do it this time. Try rebooting normally by pressing the Power button first to access the boot menu . Next, select the Restart option and see if it works.
Another way to restart the device is to press and hold the Volume Down button and Power key simultaneously for 10 seconds or until the device’s screen turns on. This simulates the effect of removing the battery from the device. If this works, it can unlock the device.
If rebooting regularly doesn’t work, try this:
- Press and hold the Volume Down button first and don’t let go.
- While holding it down, press and hold the Power key.
- Keep both keys held down for 10 seconds or more.
The second reboot procedure tries to simulate the effects of removing the battery pack. In older devices, disconnecting the battery is often an effective way to fix devices that are not responding. If nothing has changed though, move on to the next recommendations.
It can be helpful to regularly reboot your device, at least once a week. If you’re going to forget something, we recommend that you configure your phone to restart on its own. You can schedule this task by following the steps below:
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap Device Maintenance.
- Tap the 3 dots at the top.
- Select the Auto reboot option.
Galaxy Note 10 won’t charge # Step 5: charge in Safe Mode
If your Galaxy Note10 starts experiencing charging issues after installing a new app, you may be experiencing a third party issue. The best thing that you can do in this situation is to try to restart your phone in safe mode. In SAfe Mode, all third party apps are suspended and cannot be run. If you can’t remember the app, try restarting the device in safe mode and see what happens. So if the problem only goes in safe mode, it’s a clear indication that the problem is a bad third party app.
To start the device in safe mode:
- Press and hold the Power button until the power off window appears and then release it.
- Press and hold Power off until the safe mode prompt appears and then release it.
- Tap Safe mode to confirm.
- The process may take 30 seconds to complete.
- After the reboot, “Safe mode” appears at the bottom left of the home screen.
- Charge the phone while in Safe Mode.
Note that third-party apps are disabled in this mode, so the ones you can use are pre-installed apps. If Galaxy Note10 successfully charges normally in safe mode, that means the problem is caused by a bad app. Uninstall the last app you installed and see if that will fix it. If the problem persists, use the elimination process to identify the rogue app.
Here’s how:
- Boot in safe mode.
- Check the problem.
- Once you’ve confirmed that a third party app is to blame, you can start uninstalling apps one by one. We recommend that you start with the most recently added ones.
- After uninstalling an app, restart the phone to normal mode and check for the problem.
- If your Galaxy Note10 is still not charging normally (but running in safe mode), 1-4. Repeat the steps.
Galaxy Note 10 won’t charge # Step 6: Check for moisture detected error or water damage
Do you get moisture detected error every time you try to charge? If yes, the charging port is wet or there are traces of moisture inside. Wipe the phone and let it dry for a few hours before charging it again.
Galaxy Note10 has an IP68 rating, which means it is water and dust resistant. However, this resistance is not absolute and can be compromised if you don’t take good care of the device. Even though the phone may cause splashing water, swimming or diving with it is not recommended.
You don’t want to deliberately drop it into a pool or the ocean to check the effectiveness of the IP68 rating. Sometimes, this protection may not work as advertised.
In case you accidentally expose the device to water, one of the things you want to do is wipe it immediately with a clean soft cloth to dry it externally. Next, you want to let the water drip from the exposed charging port. If there is moisture or water in the port, the device will not charge at all.
This is to prevent short circuits that could fatally damage your electronics. In this case, what you want to do is dry the phone completely by wiping the phone and letting the water clear. The water naturally evaporates at room temperature after a few hours, so leave the appliance. Do NOT attempt to speed up the blow-drying process. This could potentially push the moisture inside and cause a problem.
Galaxy Note 10 won’t charge # Step 7: Factory reset
If your Galaxy Note10 still refuses to charge at this stage, you should consider resetting its software to defaults. This is the last solution you can do to check if the cause of the problem is software related or not. Make sure you have a backup of your personal data before wiping the phone.
Below are two ways to factory reset your Galaxy Note 10:
Method 1: How to reset on Samsung Galaxy Note10 via Settings Menu
This is the easiest way to erase your Galaxy Note10. all you have to do is go to the Settings menu and follow the steps below. We recommend this method when you don’t have any issues under settings.
- Make a backup of your personal data and remove your Google account.
- Open the Settings app.
- Scroll down to the General management option and tap it.
- Tap Reset.
- Choose Factory data reset from the given options.
- Read the information and tap Reset to continue.
- Tap Delete All to confirm action.
Method 2: How to hard reset on Samsung Galaxy Note10 using hardware buttons
If your situation is that the phone is not turning on or it is booting but the Settings menu is inaccessible, this method can help. First of all, you need to boot the device into Recovery Mode. Once you’ve successfully accessed the recovery, it’s time to start the proper master reset. You may need to do some experiments before accessing Recovery, so be patient and try again.
- If possible, take a backup of your personal data beforehand. If your problem is preventing you from doing this, just skip this step.
- Also, you want to make sure you remove your Google account. If your problem is preventing you from doing this, just skip this step.
- Turn off the device. This is important. If you can’t turn it off, you’ll never be able to boot into Recovery Mode. If you are unable to regularly turn off the device via the Power button, wait until the phone’s battery runs out. Then charge the phone for 30 minutes before booting into Recovery Mode.
- Press and hold the Volume Up button and the Bixby button at the same time.
- While holding down the Volume Up and Bixby keys, press and hold the Power button.
- The recovery screen menu will now appear. When you see this, release the buttons.
- ‘Wipe data / factory reset.’ Use the Volume Down button until the option is highlighted.
- Press the Power button to select ‘Wipe data / factory reset.
- Use the Volume Down button to highlight yes.
- Press the Power button to confirm factory reset.
Galaxy Note 10 won’t charge # Step 8: Repair
The other side of a charging can be caused by bad hardware. If you are not careful when plugging or unplugging the charging cable, you may accidentally damage the charging port system. This can cause charging problems. Other causes can include unknown hardware failures and known failures only after a thorough diagnosis. If factory reset does not work at all, we recommend that you visit your local Samsung store or Service Center so you can make an appointment for repair or replacement.
Galaxy Note 10 won’t charge # Step 9: use a wireless charger
Galaxy Note10 has wireless charging capability. If you’re just having trouble with cable charging, you can switch to wireless charging. While not ideal as wireless charging is slower than cable charging, it is an option you can take to keep the system alive.
Perhaps you want to have a backup of your files before visiting your local Samsung store, but the phone is already low on power. In this case, you can try using wireless charging to recharge the battery. Wireless charging is really helpful, especially if the problem is caused by a bad charging port.
The official Samsung wireless charger for Note 10 is a separate item and must be purchased separately. Visit your Samsung store to get one.
