If your Samsung Galaxy Note 10 plus and Note 10 wo n’t turn on or respond, it could be the cause of a serious hardware malfunction or a minor app or software bug. Find out how to fix this issue by following our suggestions below.
Reasons why your Galaxy Note 10 won’t turn on and how to fix the problem
If your Galaxy Note10 + won’t turn on, the first thing you want to do is find out what is causing it. There can be a number of factors that can cause this problem. Below is a general list of reasons why such an expensive device might not work at all:
[geo_ad2]- Hardware damage
- Battery problem
- Third party app problem
- Unknown software problem
Galaxy Note 10 won’t turn on # Step 1: Check for cracks or visible damage
Galaxy Note10 + is generally reliable but at times some units may not work as expected. If your Galaxy Note + won’t turn on, the first thing you want to check is the possibility that bad hardware may be to blame.
[geo_ad2]Does your Note10 + have cracks or hardware damage? These kinds of things are often the result of dropping the device or hitting the phone hard. These two are often causes of serious hardware malfunction in phones.
If the problem started after dropping the device, you should consider getting help from Samsung. The most likely cause for this is damaged hardware and there is no software fix you can do to fix it. Visit your local Samsung store so a technician can give you professional advice.

Galaxy Note 10 won’t turn on # Step 2: Charge it
If your phone is not damaged at all, the next good thing to do is simple: charge it. The battery may have been discharged to a certain level and is now not turning on properly. This can happen from time to time. Fortunately, this kind of situation is easy to fix. It is sufficient to charge the phone for at least 30 minutes. This should be enough to charge the battery between 0-100%.
Galaxy Note 10 won’t turn on # Step 3: use another set of charging accessories
If your Galaxy Note10 + still won’t turn on at this point, you’ll want to make sure it’s not caused by charging accessories. If you can borrow another charging cable or adapter from someone, that would be great. The easiest way to test whether the current set you are using is faulty.
Your phone’s battery might be out of juice and all it needs is a charge. If you have a malfunctioning charger, it could be the reason why the device won’t turn on. If you can’t find a new set of charging accessories, visit your local Samsung store and charge your device for a few minutes using the chargers.
At this stage it’s important that you only use a working official Samsung Galaxy Note10 or Note + charger. Using a charger from another Samsung device won’t charge fast enough giving the impression that the problem is still there. Plug in the charger for your specific device and make sure it works.
Galaxy Note 10 won’t turn on # Step 4: Check the charging port
Another common reason why a Galaxy device won’t turn on is a lack of power and that’s because there is something preventing the charging from charging. If possible, try to check the charging port using a magnifying glass. If you see dirt, lint or foreign objects inside, that is probably the reason the battery is dead. Use a can of compressed air to blow dirt or air. Avoid getting anything inside to avoid damaging the system.
Galaxy Note 10 won’t turn on # Step 5: Forced restart
In some cases, just restarting a device can fix it. If your Note 10+ is frozen or not responding, then force restart is an effective way to fix it. If you haven’t tried this yet, be sure to do it this time.
Try rebooting normally by pressing the Power button first to access the boot menu. Next, select the Restart option and see if it works.
Another way to restart the device is to press and hold the Volume Down button and Power key simultaneously for 10 seconds or until the device’s screen turns on. This simulates the effect of removing the battery from the device. If this works, it can unlock the device.
If rebooting regularly doesn’t work, try this:
- Press and hold the Volume Down button first and don’t let go.
- While holding it down, press and hold the Power key.
- Keep both keys held down for 10 seconds or more.
The second reboot procedure tries to simulate the effects of removing the battery pack. In older devices, disconnecting the battery is often an effective way to fix devices that are not responding. If nothing has changed though, move on to the next recommendations.
It can be helpful to regularly reboot your device, at least once a week. If you’re going to forget something, we recommend that you configure your phone to restart on its own. You can schedule this task by following the steps below:
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap Device Maintenance.
- Tap the 3 dots at the top.
- Select the Auto reboot option.
Galaxy Note 10 won’t turn on # Step 6: Check moisture detected error
Galaxy Note10 + has an IP68 rating, which means it is water and dust resistant. However, this resistance is not absolute and can be compromised if you don’t take good care of the device.
Even though the phone may cause splashing water, swimming or diving with it is not recommended. You don’t want to deliberately drop it into a pool or the ocean to check the effectiveness of the IP68 rating. Sometimes, this protection may not work as advertised.
In case you accidentally expose the device to water, one of the things you want to do is wipe it immediately with a clean soft cloth to dry it externally. Next, you want to let the water drip from the exposed charging port. If there is moisture or water in the port, the device will not charge at all.
This is to prevent short circuits that could fatally damage your electronics. In this case, what you want to do is dry the phone completely by wiping the phone and letting the water clear. The water naturally evaporates at room temperature after a few hours, so leave the device. DO NOT attempt to speed up the blow-drying process. This could potentially push the moisture inside and cause a problem.
Galaxy Note 10 won’t turn on # Step 7: use another wall outlet
If you’ve only been charging the device at the same point for a while, chances are the problem is coming from the wall outlet. Try using another outlet or connect the phone to a computer. Again, make sure you charge it for at least 30 minutes. Avoid tampering with the device while charging.
Galaxy Note 10 won’t turn on # Step 8: check for Black Screen issue
Sometimes, end users may not be able to tell if the phone has an issue with the screen (Black Screen issue) or the device is really dead (No Power issue). The two issues are sometimes confusing but are fairly easy to say separately from each other, but any one might need repair.
Black Screen issue is usually indicated with a black screen as the name suggests. The screen is black or unresponsive even though there are signs that the phone may still be functional.
If your Galaxy Note10 won’t turn on or the screen stays black but continues to sound when there are incoming messages or alerts, it will still vibrate when you try to restart it using the Power button, then you are facing the Black Screen issue on your hand. No Power issue at hand makes the device completely unresponsive and there are no signs that the Note 10 is still working completely.
If you have a problem with the black screen, the best thing to proceed from here is to have the phone inspected by a professional, preferably someone from Samsung Service Center.
If you have a No Power issue, continue troubleshooting below.
Galaxy Note 10 won’t turn on # Step 9: restart in Safe Mode
If your Galaxy Note10 + still won’t turn on then you should check if this is caused by a bad third party app. Not all apps are created equal, and sometimes a malicious or badly coded app can infect Android. If your Note + started having problems after installing an app, that could be the cause. Try rebooting in safe mode. If you can successfully boot your Note10 + in safe mode, you most likely have an app problem.
To start the device in safe mode:
- Press and hold the Power button until the power off window appears and then release it.
- Press and hold Power off until the safe mode prompt appears and then release it.
- Tap Safe mode to confirm.
- The process may take 30 seconds to complete.
- After the reboot, “Safe mode” appears at the bottom left of the home screen.
Note that third-party apps are disabled in this mode, so the ones you can use are pre-installed apps. If Galaxy Note10 successfully restarts in safe mode, it means that the problem is due to a bad app. Uninstall the last app you installed and see if that will fix it. If the problem persists, use the elimination process to identify the rogue app. Here’s how:
- Boot into safe mode.
- Check the problem.
- Once you’ve confirmed that a third party app is to blame, you can start uninstalling apps one by one. We recommend that you start with the most recently added ones.
- After uninstalling an app, restart the phone to normal mode and check for the problem.
- If your Galaxy Note10 + won’t boot normally (but running in safe mode), 1-4. Repeat the steps.
Galaxy Note 10 won’t turn on # Step 10: Boot in Recovery Mode
Some Samsung devices may refuse to boot in Safe Mode but can work in Recovery Mode. This can happen if there is an issue with the software during the boot phase. In most cases, such an issue can be fixed by wiping the device with a factory or master reset. To do this, you must first boot the phone into Recovery Mode. Here’s how to do it:
- Turn off the device. This is important. If you can’t turn it off, you’ll never be able to boot into Recovery Mode. If you are unable to regularly turn off the device via the Power button, wait until the phone’s battery runs out. Then charge the phone for 30 minutes before booting into Recovery Mode.
- Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby / Power key.
- When the green Android logo displays, release both keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
- The recovery screen menu will now appear. When you see this, release the buttons.
If your Note10 + is booting to Recovery, you need to factory reset it, which is one of the options in the Recovery menu. Unfortunately, this will delete all your personal data. If you did not back up your personal data before the problem started, you will lose them after this process. If your Note10 only boots for Recovery at this stage, it’s already too late to create a backup.
Galaxy Note 10 won’t turn on # Step 10: Repair
As an end user, there is so much you can do. If your device still won’t turn on after a Recovery Mode factory reset or won’t even boot up for Recovery, you can assume there is a deeper cause of the problem. In this case, you want to send the device for repair or replacement. Contact your Samsung store or Service Center for assistance.
