Changing default programs in Windows will improve the user experience if you use third-party applications for some tasks want. For example, you might want to use a different media player or mail manager than the one built into the system. Anyhow, you can change these values as follows. Access System Settings from the Start menu by clicking the gear icon.

Then open the panel Apps.

Choose the option Default apps (Standard-Apps). This option is on the left edge of the window.

Click on the application you want to change. As an example we have on Mail clicked to change the default email manager. Choose your favorite from the list of compatible apps.

You can do the same with the Maps application, music or video player, image viewer, and web browser.

To restore the original settings, use the reset button below Reset to the Microsoft recommended defaults (Reset to Microsoft recommended defaultsn).

Once these steps are completed, your favorite application will be set as the default for each specific task. By default, when you open a music file, mail link, or picture, Windows will use the selected application.
In addition, you can choose which program certain file types should open. This option will help you to define the default application more precisely. To do this, go to a corresponding file, click on it with the right mouse button and open the menu item Open with. Then choose Choose another app out.

From the list of compatible programs that appears, choose the one that best suits your needs. If you want a file to always open with the selected application, check the box Always use this app to open .* files.

From then on, the selected program will always be used as the default application.
