Fix #1: End the game via Task Manager.
If you get stuck and can’t do anything after the game turns to an unresponsive black screen, the first thing you can do is to see if you’ve restarted it. The best way to do this is to use the Task Manager (by pressing CTRL + ALT + DEL ) selecting the game under the Processes tab and pressing the End Task button .
If you bought the game on Steam, you can also restart Steam before restarting the game.
Fix 2: Verify if the computer meets the game’s system requirements.
Ideally, you should check your computer before installing a game. If you haven’t, you can verify if your computer meets the minimum system requirements. If you prefer maximum performance, you should make sure that your machine must meet or exceed the recommended system requirements.
Fix #3: Check for updates.
An important step in resolving the NFS Heat black screen issue is to make sure that your PC’s software environment is fully updated. To do this, you should check for updates to these components:
- apps like games
- drivers specifically for your GPU drivers
- Windows Operating System .
Make sure all these software components are running the latest versions before doing the rest of the solutions below.
Fix #4: Close other apps.
If you are running other applications while NFS Heat is playing, there may be a software conflict. Some gamers have reported that they are experiencing a black screen issue when using MSI Afterburner. I personally did not find this third-party application problematic, but your PC’s unique software environment may be a factor in some applications not working as expected.
The general rule of thumb is to try to see if closing other apps will fix the problem. So try running NFS Heat for a while only and if that works and the black screen issue stops, you should use the elimination process to identify which of your apps is causing the problem.
Fix #5: Return clocks to normal.
If NFS Heat has a bug or is constantly crashing or unresponsive, it may be due to overclocking. Try disabling overclocking on your relevant hardware and see if that helps.
This solution is definitely not viable if you don’t overclock your CPU or GPU, so skip it.
Fix #6: Run the game in Windowed Mode.
If Need For Speed starts up properly but then turns to a black screen (sound is still running in the background), you may be dealing with a display error on your system. To fix it, force the game into Windowed Mode by pressing ALT + Enter . If the game is running in Windowed Mode this time, you should go to Settings and make sure the in-game resolution is using your monitor’s native resolution.
Fix #7: Disable Display or GPU scaling in NVIDIA Control Panel.
Some gamers have managed to fix Need For Speed bugs by turning off display scaling on their NVIDIA GPUs. Here’s how to do this:
- Open the NVIDIA Control Panel.
- In the left pane, select Adjust desktop size and position.
- In the right pane, under Apply the following settings, select No scaling.
- Click Apply.
At the GPU level, you can disable scaling just as you would with your screen scaling. Here’s how to do this:
- Open the NVIDIA Control Panel.
- In the left pane, select Adjust desktop size and position.
- In the right pane, under Apply the following settings, select No scaling.
- Under Perform scaling on, select GPU.
- Click Apply.
