If you hide chats and want to keep your most important conversation list clearly organized, the WhatsApp archive is your ally. We’ll show you exactly how it works.
Archive a conversation
The Archive is a section of the Chats tab where you can save conversations that you no longer need without permanently deleting them. So it’s an intermediate solution between keeping the chat and deleting it completely.
Archiving a conversation is a very simple task. Just select the chat by long pressing it.
Select a chat in WhatsApp
A box-shaped icon with a down arrow inside it will appear in the top toolbar. Tap to archive the conversation.
Send conversation to archive
Any conversations you archive will be in the Archived saved at the top of the main WhatsApp screen.
Open the file in WhatsApp
To remove a conversation from the archive, go to the archive and repeat the process outlined here.
How to keep conversations in the archive permanently
WhatsApp allows you to archive conversations indefinitely or just until you receive a new message. You can find this option in the section Chats in the settings of the app.
Chat settings in WhatsApp
Activate Keep chats archived (Keep chats archived) if you want conversations to stay archived forever.
Always keep chats archived
If you disable this setting, the chats will be displayed on the main screen of the application again as soon as there are new messages. Depending on how you use the app, it makes sense to enable this setting or not. Remember that the archived content is synced to WhatsApp Web and stored in Google Drive and local backup.
