To mark a message as read without entering WhatsApp, there are two scenarios you can work with. In the first case, the message arrives while you are holding the phone and the screen is on. At this point, a notification will appear at the top of the screen that you have just received a message, which you can click on Mark as read Mark as read can:
Mark the message as read with the screen active
In the second case, the message came in while you weren’t looking at the phone and not holding it. In this case, when you turn on your terminal screen, you’ll see them from the lock screen:
Notification on lock screen
Swipe down with one finger to view the notification, then click again Mark as read:
Mark the message as read on the lock screen
And that’s it, it’s that simple. This way, messages will be marked as read and the notification of a new WhatsApp won’t bother you as much anymore. Please note that this trick is especially useful if you have disabled the blue double tick, otherwise the senders will see that you have read the message and not replied.
This feature has been available since July 2018 and was first made available to users who participated in testing the App help through beta versions. With its introduction, no special procedure was required to activate the feature and it has been used normally by all users ever since. We want to emphasize once again that if you have activated the double blue tick, the contact will see that you have read the message and have not replied.
