WhatsApp sends various notifications to other users with information about your status. One of these warnings will appear when you are typing a message. Other users, both in groups and in one-to-one conversations, can see the “Writing…” message. If data protection is important to you, you would of course prefer it not to happen. If that’s the case for you, here’s how how to prevent others from noticing if you are typing a message.
How to remove “Writing” message from WhatsApp with airplane mode
The easiest way to avoid the “Writing” message is using Airplane mode. Before composing the message, swipe down from the top of the screen to reveal Control Center.
Open the phone’s control panel
Then look for the airplane icon and tap it. This disconnects your phone from the network and turns off the Wi-Fi and mobile data connections.
Activate airplane mode before texting
Note that an airplane icon will appear in the status bar at the top of the screen. If so, compose your message. Since the WhatsApp application is not connected to the internet, it cannot send the “Writing…” message to the other user. When you’re done typing, press the Send button.
Write the message while airplane mode is on
You can send as many messages as you want, but none of them will leave your phone. When you’re done typing, open Control Center again and turn off Airplane mode.
Disable Airplane mode and connect the phone to the network
WhatsApp reconnects and sends all messages in one go without informing the other users that you wrote or for how long. In short, here are the steps you need to follow:
- Turn on airplane mode.
- Compose your message and send it off.
- Turn off airplane mode to send the message.
Remove the “Writing…” message from WhatsApp by replying in the notifications themselves
Another way to prevent WhatsApp from showing the “Writing…” warning to other users is to reply from notifications. When you get a message, tap Reply (reply) to reply directly from the notification.
Reply from a notification
Enter the text you want to send to the other user. Do it normally and without haste. When you click the button Reply click, the notification will be held back for as long as necessary.
Write a message and send it
Finally, tap the Send button on the right side of the text box. The answer will be transmitted to the contact person without them being able to know how long you have been writing. Summarized:
- Open the notification of a received WhatsApp message and tap answers.
- Compose your answer.
- Send your message by pressing the button in the same text field.
