Although it’s possible to enjoy the full Windows 11 experience with a free upgrade, you must always have a valid license to activate the installation. If you’ve already activated Windows 10, you don’t need to worry. The new version will then be activated automatically. But is it possible to check that?
Check Windows 11 activation in System Settings
It’s easy to find out whether Windows is activated or not. Just go to the system settings, which you can reach via the Start menu or via the key combination Windows + I. Then click System and About.
Show all computer data
Under the option Related settings you will find the buttonProduct key and activation. Click on it to continue.
Windows activation data
If you see the message Active you have a legal copy of Windows 11. For more information, just click the side arrow in the drop-down menu. In our case, we are informed that the device has been activated with a digital license.

Here’s how to find out if Windows is activated with one command
Another way to find out if the copy is properly activated on your computer is to use the Kommandozeile. Find the prompt by typing cmd into the Windows 11 search. Then start it with administrator rights.
Run CMD as administrator
Enter the following command:
slmgr /xpr
Command to show activation
A pop-up window will appear on the screen. If the message looks similar to the image below, it means your copy of Windows 11 is activated.
