Do you want to know how to recover deleted photos from Whatsapp? This article covers the easiest and fastest ways to get your images back.
From the media, is there anyone else?
Recovering a lost image may be easier than you think. First, you should check if the person (or people) you are talking to has gotten a copy of the message. If you uploaded an image and deleted it yourself, it may still be someone else in the group chat or your chat partner.
Restore from WhatsApp Backup
If someone can’t send you a copy of your lost image, the easiest way to recover lost messages is through a backup. Both Android and iOS versions of WhatsApp support backups (to Google Drive and iCloud respectively). If it hasn’t been long since you lost the messages, it’s best to restore your most recent backup.
First, go to Settings> Chats> Chat Backup . You’ll see information including when the last backup was running and how often to back up your data. If you have deleted the photos since the last backup, you can uninstall and reinstall WhatsApp to recover messages.
Just uninstall the app from your device, then reinstall a fresh copy from the App Store or Google Play. You will need to reconfirm your phone number, then you’ll see a prompt to restore your data from a backup, if available. Accept this; WhatsApp restores all your messages just like during backup.
Note that this may cause you to lose the messages you have received since your last backup .
- Another option is to see if the person you are talking to is also backing up. If he has a backup, he can bring it back from the backup and throw it to you.
Check Your Phone’s WhatsApp Folder (Android)
This step doesn’t work for iPhone users because unlike Android users, there is no way to browse their device’s entire file system (even with the Files app).
By default, WhatsApp saves every picture you send and receive in a folder. You can delete an image from chat and still have it in this folder on your phone.

Using Custom Recovery Applications
When you get help from Google in recovering WhatsApp images, you will come across dozens of programs that promise solutions. While it sounds great, the truth is terrible.
These recovery programs are all similar. They claim that they can recover your messages by installing software on your desktop and connecting your phone. Then, when you run the program, you won’t get any results. You see the app requires root access, or you actually have to pay to perform the recovery. These include dr.fone, Johosoft, iMyFone and similar tools.
And they’re not cheap either. A license costs anywhere from $ 20-50, and even if you decide to pay, you never know if the software will actually save anything.
Unfortunately, the only real way to recover deleted media from WhatsApp comes from having a proper backup in advance. WhatsApp does not keep your chat history on its servers, so you cannot contact the company to recover messages or files.
In case you were wondering, you cannot use file recovery programs like Recuva either. These apps cannot scan modern smartphones to recover files , as today’s phones do not use the USB Mass Storage protocol .
After deleting a message, the only way to recover it is through the backup file kept on your phone. If you have a backup, the best way to restore is to use the restore method described above. Without backup, you won’t be able to restore these messages and recovery apps can’t reveal them from nowhere. Therefore, it is very important that everything is backed up on time to prevent such data loss.
If you decide to try one of the recovery programs (not recommended) , be sure to act quickly. When you delete a file from your phone , it is not immediately deleted . Instead, the operating system marks it as safe to delete. When new data is entered, it replaces the data tagged for deletion.
